I was recently commissioned to co-author a new Footprint Handbook – Costa Rica, Nicaragua and Panama – due to hit the shelves in December. In addition to 10 weeks in Nicaragua, I spent a month on the ground in Panama. I was struck by the country's intense beauty and optimism. The indigenous reserve of Kuna Yala, particularly, was a bastion of purity. Photos snapped during my research trip are now available for perusal.
The third edition of Footprint’s Nicaragua Handbook is hot off the press and now available in all good bookshops. This thoroughly revised and updated guidebook to Central America’s most adventurous destination has a strong emphasis on ecology and community tourism, building on the good work of its original author, Managua-based writer and photographer Richard Leonardi.
